Eye Exams
Dr. Lucas is happy to take care of your needs no matter what age, from young children to seniors. Your examination will begin with a detailed case history through our interactive "Status View" computer program and your discussions with Dr. Lucas. Health aspects of your eyes will be thoroughly evaluated, including testing for cataracts, glaucoma, visual field defects, etc. Your prescription will be carefully determined, eye teaming ability accessed, computer-related vision problems tested for and measured, in addition to any individual problems or needs that exist. Whether your interest is glasses or contact lenses, or both, we will provide you a variety of options tailored to fit your needs.

Optomap® Retinal Scans
Dr. Lucas uses the Optomap Retinal Exam to get a much larger view of your retina than conventional eye exam equipment. The images are made without dilating your pupils - a very common procedure which is uncomfortable and inconvenient for many people. The Optomap image is displayed immediately, allowing Dr. Lucas to review it quickly and, if necessary, refer you to a retinal specialist.

Therapeutic Treatment
Dr. Lucas is licensed and certified to diagnose and treat a wide range of eye diseases and problems such as infections, inflammations, allergies, removal of foreign bodies, dry eyes, eye pain, red eyes, and many other conditions.

Contact Lenses
Dr. Lucas can fit you with whatever type of lens is best for you. We take special care to assure that your lenses fit comfortably, allow you to see well, and keep your eyes healthy. We also make sure that you feel confident applying, removing, and caring for your lenses.

Nowadays, almost all soft lenses are available in some type of disposable or frequent replacement modality, including daily replacement, weekly, biweekly, or monthly. Lenses can be worn during the day only or slept in for up to 30 continuous days. Today, virtually all types of vision corrections can be taken care of with contact lenses including nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, and presbyopia (the loss of near focusing usually after 40 years of age necessitating reading glasses, bifocals, or progressive lenses). Dr. Lucas also fits all types of gas permeable lenses including for conditions such as keratoconus.

Our guarantee with any disposable or frequent replacement lens is that you will be fit with a lens that meets your expectations regarding comfort and vision or we will refund all contact lens fees.

Despite what you may have heard,
contact lenses correcting astigmatism should be both comfortable and provide virtually the same quality of vision you achieve in glasses. Fine tuning the fit and prescription during the adaptation process will give you an end result that makes clear, comfortable lens wear a reality.

If you are wearing reading glasses, bifocals, or progressive lenses and want an alternative, it is here! Monovision (fitting one lens for distance and the other for near vision) has long been successful. However, now bifocal contact lenses are available and offer a better option than monovision for most patients.
Dr. Lucas has been successfully fitting bifocal soft contact lenses for over 7 years, and is one of the most experienced optometrists with these types of lenses in the country. He served as the chief medical consultant for a contact lens company for 2 ½ years because of his success with bifocal contacts, and has presented continuing education lectures on the subject, among others, to his peers.

LASIK
As your optometrist, Dr. Lucas, already knows your eyes.
He can tell you if you are a candidate for LASIK or if another procedure would be best for you. To ensure our patients receive the best care possible, Dr. Lucas has researched physicians and facilities. You can use his knowledge to assist you in making a wise choice for a surgeon and his experience for your pre- and post-operative care. You can be assured that your surgeon will be using the latest laser technology and techniques, including the new wave front procedure if it is appropriate for you.

You will have questions. That's natural. Our office will spend as much time as necessary to answer those questions and probably some you haven't thought of. Dr. Lucas knows intra-operative complication rates and outcome data are important to you. He also knows that your eyes and your needs are as individual as you are, so your pre-operative examination will take into consideration your own specific goals and expectations. Your vision and eye health will be thoroughly evaluated, and all your options discussed for vision correction.

Once you have decided on a treatment, our staff can assist you with scheduling and provide you with important pre-operative information. And, we can arrange for a visit with your surgeon prior to your treatment. We are dedicated to making this decision a smooth and comfortable one for you, and look forward to adding you to list of the many happy patients we have taken care of.

Computer Vision Testing
Over 100 million working Americans suffer from computer eyestrain resulting in headaches, loss of focus, burning/tired eyes, blurred vision, neck and shoulder pain, and deterioration in distance vision. The cause of this for the 75% of computer users is the pixels that make up the images we see on our computer screen. These pixels cause those individuals to focus differently than they do when looking at printed material, resulting in the symptoms now labeled computer vision syndrome or CVS.

How do you know if this is a problem for you? When you have your eye exam at our office we will take measurements for computer use, see if you have a problem, and discuss options to allow you to work on the computer comfortably. We did not have an adequate way to test for computer problems until PRIO Corporation developed an in-office instrument that we can incorporate into our exams.
Dr. Lucas has been a certified PRIO doctor since the early introduction of this technology and is well versed in dealing with the problems that face most computer users. If you would like more details on CVS, the causes, testing, and treatment, visit http://www.prio.com.
